In internet marketing my Prof is helping us develop our own, personal website to help us sell ourselves into a professional market. We are supposed to develop our website and angle it towards the market we wish to find a job in. One of the most important KEY elements to the website, for future employers is our story…what makes us unique, why is this where we want to be?

I don’t know what my story is…

I know I have a story, everyone has a story. I guess my story would have to be restaurants. Its in my blood, I grew up with it, I started my own snack bar, I work in a restaurant…my story would be restaurants, my story is restaurants…but what if that’s not what I want my story to be…

For years now I have been telling everyone I want to be in marketing/PR while I am young and enjoying life then settling into owning a restaurant when I am older. But WHY?! I told my prof I don’t know what my story is and she tried to ask it another way. She tried asking me what led me to marketing/PR…HA! I don’t have an answer with that one either. I guess I just piled together the things I like to do, the things I enjoy, and what I would find exciting and found marketing. That’s not going to get me a job though. I tried explaining this to my prof and I told her about my story of restaurants and her answer was simple:

work in marketing/PR for restaurants.

it seems like such a simple answer for my big dilemma, but for some reason I have a serious mental block about doing this. I don’t know why, I love restaurants. I should be jumping for joy that I found my niche but for the past few weeks I have been doing research on Warner Brothers Studio. Every since I went on a tour of the studio I decided I want to work there in their marketing department. I even found my dream internship in CALIFORNIA! Its marketing and promotion of movies. Collaborating events for movie releases and being a part of the movie’s marketing campaign. One of the requirements: to be able to attend mixers and premiers to better understand the promotional parties. AMAZING!!! But why do I want this? because it’s glamorous? because I can mingle with Hollywood’s pretty people!? Am I really just that shallow and superficial????

I just don’t know what my story is…or what I want my story to be.
